Peter Denyer, Founder and Non-Executive Chairman (2006-2010)
May 2010: It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of our Chairman, Peter Denyer. Since co-founding ATEEDA in 2007, his contributions to the company’s development have been immense. His impressive career is remembered in this obituary from the University of Edinburgh.
He is greatly missed.
Peter was an academic and an entrepreneur who founded and acted as a director of a number of technology companies. He served as Chief Executive Officer of VISION Group plc, a semiconductor company, from its inception in 1990, through its UK flotation in 1995, its subsequent growth and eventual sale to STMicroelectronics [plc] in 1999. Prior to this, Peter led research at the University of Edinburgh in the field of semiconductor chip design. His group was among the leading grant recipients in the university and contributed to the success of the Department of Electrical Engineering, which persistently achieved a 5-star (the highest national) grading for its teaching and research. His research was recognised with numerous awards including the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal and the IEEE Millennium medal.
Subsequent to the acquisition of VISION Group plc, Peter was involved in the foundation of MicroEmissive Displays Limited, which was admitted to AIM in November 2004, and Rhetorical Group plc which was sold to Scansoft Inc in 2004. Thereafter he continued to pursue both academic and entrepreneurial activities and held an honorary Chair at the University of Edinburgh.
